We've all wondered about these things. What to pack? How much is too much? How do those people travel for months and years, and haven't won the lottery?

Andrew Pain is an experienced adventure and overland motorcyclist. He's traveled North and South America on a 250cc motorcycle, and knows what it means to budget the time, the money, and the energy for long overland trips. He's appeared at events such as Overland Expo and Horizons Unlimited to give talks on traveling, budgeting, and packing.

In The Minimal Motorcyclist, Andrew explains his ideas on traveling small, needing less money and gear before leaving and once on the road, and how to maximize the parts of the trip you will always look back on with pleasure. He careful constructs what you really need to travel, and how to sort those things from the amazing variety of gear available for the motorcyclist. And he explains the importance of the trip itself - the need to move from planning the big trip to leaving on it.

The Minimal Motorcyclist A Practical Guide to Overland and Adventure Motorcycle Travel eBook Andrew Pain Reviews

My husband and I have found Andrew Pain's books most useful and have traveled far and wide using his tips. We have also gone to see him speak at a few events and he's very approachable and willing to share tips with you and offer support. Andrew rocks!
For those who have never toured on a motorcycle, this book is a great resource to help you plan your big adventure. If after reading this book, you are still apprehensive about long distance riding, don't be.... Just do it!!!!
First off, if you think you know everything about riding in one sentence, then perhaps reading books should not be a hobby of yours. You should probably focus on riding instead. For the rest of us that enjoy a good short read during hectic schedules, then this fits the bill. I personally have been reading Mr. Pain's books for a few years now. His books and views on going small or being a minimalist have recently motivated me to buy a RX3 250 ADV bike. I look forward to using his tips during my travels and making sure I have packing space for one of his books to take along.
I like the conversational style and format of Pain's books...the simplicity and straightforward approach make it easy to get the info & use it. Before I bought my dual sport bike, I went through one of his books to make sure I wasn't over-buying. It was spot-on. I like to pack light, and just bought the one about packing to ready myself for the pre-season clean out & re-pack session. It's easy stuff to forget, and Pain's practical guides are just that practical.
True advice from a true biker! Good reading if you like motorcycle touring.
Full of advice for the novice and concepts worth consideration for the more seasoned. Andrew makes several good suggestions based on experience. Worth the cost and time to read.
All of Andrew Pain's books have a large number of typographical errors. The author should do a better job proof-reading his works or hire someone else to do it. From an editor's point of view, these books are unprofessionally written.

That said, Mr. Pain does provide very useful tips, information, and insight into the fact that almost everyone will take far more than they need on a trip. Though many of his suggestions can be useful, the most important idea I took away from this read was take nothing and buy what you need along the way.

If I could only find
