Omoo Adventures In The South Seas Herman Melville 9781161445824 Books Reviews

A classic, what more can I say.
Melville is one of the best , a specialist in describing life aboard ship in the early to mid 1800s....
It was not what i was expecting, but it did take care of reading material for a vacation. There are some really good parts there are others that you can skip.
I wanted to finish the book even though it was a little cumbersome in spots. Herman Melville was a great story teller. The story had just enough action, geographical interest and a lot of stuff in such a short book.
A good description of life in Tahiti in the whaling days. I found it interesting reading.
An interesting read but not quite up to the standards of Moby Dick (but what is).
I will read anything by Melville. His stories are engaging, informative and well-written. I have learned much about Polynesia in the 1800's; the culture and landscape, and the damage done to the islanders by well-intentioned missionaries and the French. I also learned how difficult it was for sailors who had the misfortune of a bad captain on a whaling ship and how difficult it was if they tried to run. Overall this was a good story. If you're looking for something other than mysteries and romance you won't be disappointed. I did like Typee better, but still good.

One question I have is why is this book titled Omoo? I must have missed something. I saw no mention of Omoo in the book.
